As languages teachers, it is not always easy to find authentic material that our students would find challenging yet accessible, fun and motivating.

We would like to present you with French and German magazines that, according to the languages department, fulfill all the required qualities:
The French VOILÀ and the German FERTING LOS.

This new school year 2007/2008 sees some changes in our infant department: new rules, new head, new teacher, etc

New Head and New Teacher
We would like to give a warm welcome to our new head teacher, Miss Julie, and to our new K3 teacher, Miss Zena. We are sure that they both will receive all of our support.

In order to ensure that all our pupils enter and leave the school buildings safely, the following arrangements for entering and leaving school premises will come into effect from next Monday, 24th September

All vehicle gates will remain closed until 8.00 a.m. If your child arrives before this time, he/she should enter through the pedestrian gate leading to the office in the primary building. Both secondary and primary pupils who arrive early should sit down and wait outside the office until 8.00a.m. They should then go to their different playgrounds.

We would like to introduce the following new members of staff who have joined out teaching team in San Lorenzo this September: Vicky Baggott, Jonathan Haygarth, Teresa Livingstone, Sandra McCreedy, Catherine McPhilemy, Gary Pantrey, James Slocombe, Jim Wright, Tom Ralis, Katy Baggott and Celia Hone.

We would like to welcome everyone back after the long summer break and extend the welcome to those pupils and teachers who are with us for the first time. We also have a special ‘thankyou’ for those who came by car on Thursday and cooperated in our attempt to make the arrival of the children as safe and speedy as we could. The first day back after the long summer holiday always brings more than the usual influx of vehicles on the narrow road leading to the school but with the help of everyone involved, even at the expense of a certain personal inconvenience, the circulatory chaos was much better than other years. There is still, nevertheless, room for improvement and we will be investigating other possibilities of making everyone’s arrival and departure as safe and smooth as possible.
Beryl Pritchard

Dear Parents:
It is with much regret that we inform you that Miss Vicki will be retiring at the end of this academic year after years of service. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Miss Vicki for her tireless work and commitment to the school and for the care she’s shown to all the children who have been in Ruben Dario.
She will be greatly missed by all, past and present pupils, parents and staff. We hope that she enjoys her retirement and comes back to visit often.

28 Canterbury students sat the June ‘Selectividad’ examination with a 97% pass rate. Of these 28 pupils, 18 have obtained a University entrance grade of 7 or above and 6 of these obtained grades of above 8.5. The rest obtained grades between 6.0 and 7.0 with one exception.

From the next school year, pupils from British Schools in Spain can enter Spanish Universities if the requisites for entering British Universities are fulfilled. This means that pupils from Canterbury can enter Spanish Universities directly with ‘A’ level passes. Nevertheless it will still be possible to enter via ‘Selectividad’ and the school will continue to offer this option. For detailed information please click here and select ‘ Selectividad/Acceso Unión Europea’.
