2nd Term

The AS Business Studies group toured London last week in an effort to understand the systems and processes that contribute to a successful, integrated and strategic economy. With visits to the Stock Exchange, the Royal Exchange and the Metal Exchange students were given firsthand experience of the fast-paced trading, buying and selling environment that enables market-orientated economies to operate. Students witnessed high intensity exchanges unfolding on the floor, thanks to traders running around waving bits of paper and shouting at one another, whilst speaking on not just one but two telephones!

Estimados padres y tutores:

On Wednesday 20th February, K3 and P1 from Maspalomas went to Parque Norte. It was a long way on the bus, but it was worth it! We learnt about banana plants and how they grow them, we played with the parrots and the baby goats and then we went for a walk around the park. There we saw lots of different birds, farm animals and some monkeys. It was a great day and we had lots of fun.

K1 went to La Granja del Tío Isidro . We had a lovely time! We fed the cows, the sheep and the goats. We saw lots of different birds and their eggs. We touched a baby rabbit and a duckling. There were two black pigs, three brown cows and one black horse. Then we planted some lettuce to feed the animals. We were very tired when we came back on the bus. Some of us fell asleep!

K3 pupils went to Osorio estate on Thursday 7th February. There they were able to observe different kinds of animals and plants and were able to practise what they had learnt in their science lessons.
They had nice weather and both adults and children enjoyed playing all the activities suggested by the instructors.

Last Tuesday 12th February 2008 K2 children went to Cocodrilo Park down in Agüimes. Once there they had the opportunity to see lots of animals and practise all the English vocabulary they had learnt about them in the classroom. Our pupils watched two shows, a parrot show and a crocodile show. We all had a great day.

On Friday, 1st February, both Primary and Secondary Departments will be celebrating carnival. We would like to remind you that the celebration is organised within the school by teachers for and with the help of pupils. In the secondary department pupils should come to school dressed in school uniform and bring their costume with them in a bag. In the primary department pupils may come to school already wearing their fancy or in normal school uniform. See newsletter and visit the Web oficial del carnaval de Las Palmas.

El día 29 de enero de 2008, martes, se celebrará una reunión para informarles de los preparativos para el comienzo de los exámenes IGCSE en el mes de mayo así como para responder a todas las dudas que tengan. (Ver Circular).

21-01-2008 K1-K3 Visits and Assemblies 2008.

Firstly a very warm welcome back and a Happy New Year to you all.
We would like to advise you of the following dates for our class assemblies this term. If it is your child’s class assembly you are invited to join us on the patio at 2 p.m.

The Canterbury School of Maspalomas has won the second and third prize of IV Certamen of literature competition entitled “Write a letter to the Three Kings” developed by the town hall of San Bartolomé de Tirajana.

The first term in the art room has been very successful with some excellent work being produced by all years. The P6 and S1 students have worked particularly hard and the P6 students studied aboriginal art and produced their own boomerang which they tested out in the playground (see photos) the S1 students worked hard on their self portraits and the excellent work is on display in the school. Well done to all the art students who have worked well this term.

All the children from the Infant Department will visit Theatre Felo Monzón to watch the show “Mi amigo Colorín” on Thursday 17th January 2008. We will leave the school around 9 and be back around 11. This show is a musical comedy where the children can identify and reject any bulling behaviour or violence against their peers. We all hope they enjoy this experience.
