S3 Art students visited casa Colon last week to look at the portraits on exhibition there and to draw some of them. A good time was had by all especially when the parrots came to see what we were drawing.

Twentytwo S3 students spent five days in a very cold Paris last week. A great time was had by all and they visited the Eiffel Tower, the Museum Dorsay, Montmarte and lots of different parts of the capital. They also collected images and information to complete a diary on their visit to use as part of their French and Art work. The highlight of the week was a bus tour of Paris by night and a day at Asterix Park. Well done to all the pupils involved for a very enjoyable trip.

The AS and IGCSE Business Studies group toured London last week in an effort to understand the systems and processes that contribute to a successful, integrated and strategic economy. With visits to the Royal Exchange and the Metal Exchange students were given firsthand experience of the fast-paced trading, buying and selling environment that enables market-orientated economies to operate. Students witnessed high intensity exchanges unfolding on the floor, thanks to traders running around waving bits of paper and shouting at one another, whilst speaking on not just one but two telephones!

On 17th February P2-P5 visited the Cueva Pintada at Gáldar. We had an enjoyable day and learned all about the Canarian settlers who made their homes in caves and painted them with natural minerals to decorate them.

K1 and K2 went on a trip to la Granja del Tío Isidro. The trip involved a guide showing and talking about the animals. The children also had an opportunity to feed and touch the animals. A great day was had by all. Thank you to all the parent helpers.

S1A and S1B have visited Emalsa’s facilities. They went to the LP III desalination plant, where they saw how reverse osmosis can obtain fresh water from sea water much more efficiently than the old distillation method. They took in the laboratories where all the tests are done to assure the quality of our tap water, and finished with the sewage treatment works, to see what happens to our waste water after we have used it.

It has been a wonderful week for 5B. On Thursday we went to both Television Canaria and the Canarian radio station.
